Recipe: A Very Gotham Christmas Cocktail

Words by

This time of year, nothing brings people together quite like a festive cocktail.

This year, make sure your menu includes the Gotham Christmas, a popular holiday drink from our friends at Mulvaney’s B&L featuring our sustainably grown basil. You can play bartender and make it yourself at home with the recipe below, or try it at the Sacramento restaurant now through the end of the month.

Recipe: Gotham Christmas Cocktail

For the Crystalized Cranberries:
– 12 oz cranberries
– 2 egg whites, lightly beaten
– Sugar
Toss cranberries in egg whites, then strain well in a pasta basket. Roll the cranberries in sheet pan with sugar until all berries are separated and well coated. Let sit for at least 2 hours, store at room temperature.

For the Basil Syrup:
– Gotham Greens Basil, picked leaves from one bunch
– 1 cucumber, rough chopped
– 2 cups sugar
– 2 limes, juiced
Put all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth and bright green. You can strain this if you’d like, but know that it’s just as delicious as-is.

Finally, it’s time to put it all together.

For the Gotham Christmas Cocktail:
– 2 oz Basil Syrup
– 1.5 oz vodka or gin (optional)
– Sparkling water
– Crystallized Cranberries
Fill a Collins glass with ice. Pour over 2 oz of the Gotham Greens syrup and 1.5 oz of your favorite gin or vodka. Top with sparkling water, stir and taste for balance (you might prefer more or less syrup or alcohol—the choice is yours! Serve garnished with cranberries and a straw. Leave the booze out for a festive and refreshing mocktail.
